Census in your pocket: follow us on social media
The Population and Housing Census is a major campaign that must literally reach every Estonian resident. Without the involvement of social media this would probably be impossible nowadays. By following us on Facebook and Instagram you’ll always have the newest information.
As the census must reach all Estonian residents regardless of their language three different pages have been created on Facebook: in Estonian, English and Russian.
But why in English? Counted are all people who have a Estonian residency card. In addition the page provides an opportunity to share information about the census to foreign countries and foreign journalists. As Estonia is at the forefront of the world in terms of e-census and we hope to set a new world record for the proportion of respondents online, there is great interest in the topic abroad.
In Facebook you’ll find links to interesting articles, videos and stories from behind the scenes. Instagram will be first and foremost a place to share visual information. Statistics Estonia has a lot of exciting information, so there is no reason to fear that it would be too early to start following us already now.
There is still a lot of preparation to be done in the year leading up to the census and our social media will be a place to share the preparations, how the enumerators practice their work, what grandmothers, employees of start-ups, the great-grandmother in the woods and everyone else should know about the census. It may even happen that fans can get involved in some decisions themselves.
