Around 150,000 people have responded to the e-census
By today, January 6, approximately 150,000 people have submitted answers to the Population and Housing Census e-questionnaire. Women have been considerably more active in filling in the questionnaire than men. The short questionnaire can be answered until January 22.
Liina Osila, Population and Housing Census project manager at Statistics Estonia, said that preliminary estimates clearly show that during the holidays, there was less activity in the questionnaire, but now there are more respondents every day. “The questionnaire can be filled in until January 22, and by then everyone will have received a personal invitation by e-mail. It is not necessary to wait for the invitation, though. You can go on the website census.ee and start answering the questions any time. These individuals who belong in the mandatory survey sample should have received a paper invitation by now,” explained Osila.
“I especially invite people from Ida-Viru county to participate in the census, as they have been the least active so far. Only 4% of the local residents have submitted their answers. The current data also show that women have been considerably more active than men: 61% of the people who have submitted the questionnaire are women and 39% are men,” said Osila.
Liina Osila invites everyone to participate in the e-census, as each answer counts and will lead to more accurate results. Everyone whose permanent residence is in Estonia can respond to the census survey.
The online census questionnaire can be completed until 22 January 2022. After that, during the period 1–28 February 2022, census takers will collect data from the people who failed to fill in the questionnaire but who live at randomly selected addresses from which it is mandatory to respond to the census questionnaire. Collected and analysed data will be published gradually starting from June 2022 until the end of the year.
The online questionnaire can be filled in at census.ee after authenticating oneself with an ID-card, Mobile-ID or Smart-ID. It takes around five minutes per person to complete the questionnaire.
The questionnaire only includes questions to which researchers, officials and organisations need answers that are not yet available in registers. These concern, for example, the knowledge of languages and dialects, religious affiliation and limitations on daily activities due to health problems.
