During the first days of June, Statistics Estonia tested readiness to conduct an online survey of the Population and Housing Census in a new survey application. According to the census project manager Liina Osila, the testing was successful and Statistics Estonia is technologically ready for the census.

Nearly 150 employees of Statistics Estonia and external partners participated in the test survey. According to Osila, a lot of valuable feedback was received and initial conclusions were made in order to continue working on making the necessary changes and corrections.

“The testing went as planned and we are technologically ready for the Population and Housing Census. However, the necessary developments do not end with the testing. There are still a number of smaller activities ahead that need to be addressed before the census begins. For example, work will continue on the design of the questionnaire and the wording of the help texts for the questions,” said Osila. According to the project manager, the rules for storing data in the database will also be critically reviewed. In addition, a load meter will be developed for the census web, and performance tests on both the data collection application and the website still lie ahead. We hope to be ready with these activities by the end of October at the latest,” Osila added.
